5 Things You Can do Today to Relief Stress

How can we relief stress in our daily lives to make use more productive.

  1. 1. SLEEP!!!  Sleep is the most important thing we can do to ward off stress.  The greater majority of people do not sleep enough.  The recommendation is 7-8 hours of sleep a night. This means 7 to 8 hours where you are actually sleeping without interruptions. It is best to sleep in a cool room 65 degrees is idea, with out the tv on, without looking at your cell phone or tablet in bed, in a room that is completely dark.  Darkness is very important to melatonin production in the brain, this is the chemical that tells the rest our brain and body that it is time for sleep.
  2. 2. Eat Right.  Stress levels and a proper diet are closely related. When overwhelmed, we tend forget to eat well resorting to using fatty snack or sugary foods as a pick-me-up. Try to avoid sugary snacks and try to plan ahead. Fruits and vegetables are should be the type of food you eat the most of, along with lean protein and moderate to low amounts of carbohydrates. Balancing each meal is important to your metabolic levels through out the day.
  3. 3.Exercise. Exercise doesn’t have to mean power lifting at the gym or training for a marathon. A short walk around the block or simply standing up to stretch during a break at work can offer immediate relief in a stressful situation. Getting your blood moving releases endorphins which can improve your mood and reduce stress.
  4. 4. Breath. Take a deep breath. This may seem like a cliché, but it is definitely helpful when it comes to stress.  Take three- to five-minute exercise, sit up in your chair with your feet flat on the floor and hands on top of your knees. Breath in through your nose, making your belly expand hold the breath for a count of five and exhale slowly through your mouth. Deep breathing oxygenates your blood, helps center your body, and clears your mind. Your body can not be in a state of fight or flight at the same time, meaning you physically can not be tensed up ready for a fight and psychically relaxed where your muscles are not tensed.  Deep breathing tells your body there is no fight there is not stress. This is something you can do anytime any where that will immediately have a positive affect on how stressed you feel at that moment
  5. 5.Music. Take a break and listen to some relaxing music.  Classical music can be very soothing and meditative for many people.  But it doesn’t have to be classical music, whatever type of music or specific songs can pull you away mentally from the stress and put you in your zone, will be helpful.  Music allows us to let go, let go of the stress and just flow with the melody.
